Claros Technologies, Inc. has reached a major milestone in the fight against persistent environmental pollutants, successfully completing a large-scale commercial optimisation run of its proprietary ClarosTechUV platform at Daikin America’s manufacturing facility in Decatur, Alabama.
The achievement signals a critical step forward for PFAS destruction, moving the technology from pilot success to full commercial readiness.
Michelle Bellanca, CEO and Co-Founder of Claros, commented: “This commercialisation marks a turning point — not just for DAI and Claros, but for the entire PFAS landscape.
“We are on the cusp of delivering the most advanced commercial-scale PFAS destruction technology for high-flow industrial wastewater – proof that industry can lead the way in sustainable, high-performance, and affordable innovation.
“DAI’s partnership and commitment to championing the ClarosTechUV™ solution have been key to turning this breakthrough into industrial reality.”
Commercial-scale proof of PFAS destruction performance
The optimisation run followed an earlier pilot programme and was designed to confirm performance under real-world industrial conditions.
During the campaign, the ClarosTechUV system treated more than 170,000 gallons (around 640,000 litres) of industrial process water containing multiple PFAS compounds.
Results showed greater than 99.99% destruction of all targeted PFAS species, including long-chain, short-chain and ultra-short-chain variants such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA).
Importantly, the system maintained this level of PFAS destruction at high flow rates reaching hundreds of gallons per minute, while also demonstrating stable operation and strong energy efficiency.
Key features of the ClarosTechUV system
The next-generation PFAS destruction platform demonstrated several advantages during the run, including effectiveness across all PFAS chain lengths, ultra-high destruction efficiency, high-throughput processing, a compact footprint suitable for existing facilities, and safe, UV-based operation.
Together, these features position ClarosTechUV as a practical solution for industrial PFAS destruction and sustainable manufacturing worldwide.
From pilot success to commercial readiness
This milestone establishes ClarosTechUV as the first field-tested, industrially validated platform ready for commercial PFAs destruction deployment.
Unlike laboratory-scale or theoretical approaches, the technology has now been proven in active manufacturing environments, confirming its scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Through collaborations with Daikin America and other industrial partners, Claros has processed more than half a million gallons of PFAS-containing industrial water to date.
Across varying concentrations and water chemistries, the system has consistently delivered verified PFAsS destruction performance.
Advancing toward the first full-scale installation
With commercial optimisation complete, Claros and Daikin America are now progressing toward detailed engineering and system specifications for what is expected to be the world’s first full-scale industrial PFAS destruction installation.
The partnership is also expanding, with both companies aiming to help manufacturers’ close the PFAS loop’ and reduce long-term environmental risk.
David Hendrixson, Executive Vice President of Daikin, added: “Over the past year, we’ve proven that complete PFAS destruction at an industrial scale is not theoretical – it’s happening now.
“This milestone reflects DAI’s long-standing leadership in sustainability and our commitment to embracing innovative technologies that move the industry – and our customers – forward.”
“Partnering with a company like Claros – whose ClarosTechUV™ system represents the most advanced commercially ready PFAS destruction technology – demonstrates how collaboration and innovation can deliver real environmental progress.”
