The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is set to host Materials, Minerals and Mining for People, Places, Planet (M3P3) on 11–12 November 2025 at Millennium Point, Birmingham.
The two-day event will unite more than 22 technical communities for a dynamic programme of debate, insight, and collaboration focused on the future of materials and sustainable innovation.
M3P3 is open to all, with one-day and two-day passes available. Delegates can connect, share ideas, and explore the developments shaping the sector.
Commenting on the event, Dr Colin Church, CEnv FIMMM, CEO of IOM3, said: “M3P3 is about more than technical discussion. It is about exploring sustainable solutions and how we can use materials more responsibly.
“By bringing together our community, we are creating a space where people can connect, collaborate, and influence what comes next.”
Exploring the circular economy and sustainable growth
One of the event’s key highlights will be the Circular Economy plenary, part of the Changemakers in Conversation series.
This session will tackle how the UK can rethink resource use, extend product lifecycles, and eliminate waste – pivotal themes as the UK Government prepares its new Circular Economy Strategy.
Speakers include Mary Creagh CBE MP, Minister for Nature; Libby Peake, Head of Resource Policy at Green Alliance; Professor Mark Miodownik MBE FREng, of University College London; and Iain Gulland, Chief Executive of Zero Waste Scotland.
Together, they will share insights on how industries can lead the charge toward a regenerative, low-carbon future.
Insight, innovation, and collaboration
M3P3 promises a vibrant mix of content, including four Changemakers in Conversation plenaries, twelve Topical Knowledge Exchange Sessions, and IOM3 Training Academy taster workshops.
Delegates can also attend satellite conferences exploring timber, bio-based polymers, and materials for net-zero fission and fusion technologies.
A dedicated student and early careers programme will nurture the next generation of materials professionals.
Thought leaders at the forefront
Keynote speakers include Ed Conway, Economics Editor at Sky News; Mary Creagh CBE MP; Sarah Mukherjee MBE, CEO of ISEP; and David Knowles FREng, CEO of the Henry Royce Institute.
Together, they will address the intersection of materials innovation, industrial strategy, and environmental responsibility – shaping the dialogue for a more sustainable planet.
