For The Only Planet We Have – Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research

The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research at the University of Helsinki, offers innovative, interdisciplinary research into securing the future of the Earth.

The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research at the University of Helsinki, conduct cutting-edge research on climate change, air quality, biochemical cycles and ecosystem processes. Their interdisciplinary research has resulted in a unique perspective on how we can answer the Earth’s most important questions.

In collaboration with Innovation News Network, The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research at the University of Helsinki have developed the eBook, ‘For The Only Planet We Have’, which discusses a multitude of areas, such as:

  • Geoscience
  • Atmospheric aerosol measurement technology
  • Climate policy
  • Education in climate and atmospheric science
  • Meteorological science

The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research’s project GlobalSMEAR is working towards promoting an integrated global Earth observatory for continuous, comprehensive environmental information and data services.

They have international master and doctoral programmes in atmospheric sciences, and it also contributes to teaching in all involved disciplines including physics, meteorology, forest sciences, chemistry, geosciences and environmental sciences in the University of Helsinki.

INAR is known for promoting strategic research while also producing knowledge to lead society to a sustainable future in a dialogue with public and policy makers. The research conducted under INAR tackles especially climate change, use of natural resources and air pollution, some of the most the urgent challenges of our time.

The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research is proudly linked to 11% of all ERC grants issued to Finland, out of a total 115 ERC grants given to Finish researchers.
