First Hydrogen to discuss results of its road trials at Fleet & Mobility Live

At Fleet & Mobility Live, First Hydrogen is set to exhibit its suitability for fleet operations based on the results of its first UK road trials.

Fleet & Mobility Live is the UK’s leading annual fleet and mobility community event. This year, the event will be held on 3 and 4 October at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

First Hydrogen’s hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle will be at stand P14a, in the Tomorrow’s Fleet section.

Allan Rushforth, First Hydrogen’s Chief Commercial Officer, is set to participate in the panel discussion, ‘The road ahead of zero emissions logistics.’

In this discussion, held on the first day of Fleet & Mobility Live, Rushforth will showcase First Hydrogen’s performance. He will also discuss their suitability for fleet operations based on the results of its first UK road trials with fleet management company Rivus.

The panel discussion will also feature speakers from Mitie, the UK’s leading facilities management and professional services company, and British supermarket chain, Waitrose & Partners.

First Hydrogen demonstrates the capabilities of FCEVs

First Hydrogen is the first company to display its FCEV for the light commercial vehicle market on British roads.

The company is also collaborating with members of the Aggregated Hydrogen Freight Consortium and other major fleets to demonstrate the capabilities of hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles. This has been done through a series of road trials that deliver a zero-emission road transport experience, free of range anxiety.

In Rivus’ post-trial report regarding the first trial, the company concluded: “[…] overall, the vehicle performed very well during testing, appearing, much more robust than battery electric vehicles in terms of how vehicle efficiency was affected by different load factors.”

In subsequent trials with SSE Plc, the vehicle maintained efficiency and had a range of over 630km on a single refuelling.

Drivers observed that heavier payloads and driving at higher speeds did not affect cell performance or reduce range.

First Hydrogen is also able to calculate the Total Cost of Ownership through the data collected during the operator road trials. This is a major concern for fleet managers when purchasing vehicles.

This information will allow First Hydrogen to demonstrate the value of its hydrogen-powered LCVs from a cost perspective. The analysis will also showcase the value of the vehicles in terms of their environmental impact – building a strong business case for adoption.
